New Publication: Artificial-Goosebump-Driven Microactuation

We are pleased to share our new article:
“Artificial-Goosebump-Driven Microactuation.”

This work introduces a novel microactuation strategy inspired by biological piloerection (goosebumps). Using light-responsive liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) as artificial skin, localized goosebumps are generated under programmable femtosecond laser excitation, enabling precise actuation of surrounding passive microstructures.

Key contributions include:

  • 3D microstructure actuation via artificial goosebumps

  • Tilted micro-mirrors for controlled light reflection

  • Global and local disassembly of self-assembled microstructures

  • Demonstration of potential applications in information storage

This approach offers precise, localized, and controllable manipulation of microstructures, paving the way for programmable micromachines.
