We are excited to share our new article:
“Integrated Mechanical Computing for Autonomous Soft Machines.”
This work introduces a metamaterial design strategy that enables non-dispersive solitary waves in mechanical systems to perform multi-level cascaded logic functions, a concept termed integrated mechanical computing.
Key contributions of this study include:
-
Designing heterogeneous computing units for lossless mechanical information processing
-
Establishing an analytical framework based on potential energy for solitary wave computation
-
Demonstrating cascaded logic operations purely within mechanical networks
-
Prototyping autonomous soft machines that can receive, transmit, and compute mechanical information seamlessly
These results pave the way for future intelligent soft robots and machines capable of computation driven by non-electrical environmental inputs.
